Word of the Year~Obey

John 14:15
"If ye love me, keep my commandments."

Over and over I have felt a pull in my heart about obedience.  I have been struggling with small things not big. But small things can become big. They are also things that may not be even considered sin but they are things the Lord has been pulling my heart strings about.

Two weeks ago a devotion came to my inbox and the verse above stood out to me.  The devotion really spoke to my heart about obedience. Then over the last few days I have been really struggling and just feeling a little lost in some areas. Last night I just kept pondering the devotion that I read on obedience.  Then this morning I got another devotion in my inbox with the same scripture and it was on the same topic.

I knew for sure that this was the Lord pulling at me to really apply this to my life and to go deeper in obedience. So, this is my word for the year....OBEY.

The scripture speaks volumes and will be my verse of the year. Do you see the key word in the verse above?  The key to keeping His commandments?  It is LOVE.  "If you love me,". Wow....the first step in true faithful obedience is deep love for Christ and His ways.

I plan to study obedience this year. As I do my daily readings I will record any scriptures that are about obedience, submission, and such. I will also try to find a book in regards to the topic.

How do you plan to apply the Word or theme you chose for your year??

Blessings,
Chrissy

  1. That is the first law of the gospel and because we all sin the reason for our Savor. I can't imagine you ever being disobedient, but me on the other hand......

  2. That is ultimately what it boils down to isn't it? If we truly love God, we will keep His commandments. I have failed miserably in this area so many times and I really hope to go deeper into His word this year. Be blessed my friend!

  3. Yesterday, I was reading 2 Chronicles 25 and in the 2 verse it says: "He did right in the sight of the Lord, yet not with a whole heart".
Sometimes it's not the big things, but "the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom." (Song of Solomon 2:15)

  4. At the church I attended in my late teens and early 20’s, (a community Christian Church), a huge theme was that God didn’t want what you want. So if there was anything or anyone that you loved or wanted, God didn’t want it for you. At the time, I felt God was calling me to devote my life to helping children, specifically to be a child advocate. For the umpteenth time, I was told that what I wanted was not what God wanted and that in a nutshell, God wanted me working for the dead animal pick up. (Long story). That was 20 years ago, and it was literally the last time I could bear to hear that God didn’t want for me What I felt called to for myself, and I left church come hell or high water. Over the past 20 years, my life and career can basically be summed up in this song:

It’s meant for a young man who is dying, but trust me, by obeying God instead of my church that had this obsession with that concept, I died a thousand times and was raised each time. It’s worth it.

    2. Yes. I’m not a huge fan of therapy, but that one did take some therapy.

  5. We are told to obey over and over again. I think it is something like over 200 times the word is mentioned in the Bible. I know that as you dig deeper into God's Word and increase your obedience you will be blessed!

  6. Obey sounds simple but it’s the first wrong thing Adam and Eve did by eating the fruit.
Can you tell we started a read the Bible through in a year plan this Jan 1 and of course it started with Genesis?

I’ll be rooting for you as you go through this new year!
