Homeschool Update and He is Moving OUT!

My oldest moves out tomorrow. Heading to college. I can't believe it. It is a bitter sweet thing. I am glad he is independent, smart, and has a good head on his shoulders. But it is hard to know he will be on his own. Pictures to come.

We have had some rough patches starting our new homeschool year. I got sick the first week of school and it took me two weeks to recover. My blessed immune system is getting weaker. My dad took a bad turn and I had to deal with that. My son going to college had some bumps over the last few weeks with his college. They messed up his schedule, scholarships, and lost a BIG scholarship check that was sent to them. My daughter is getting braces and she had to have an extraction and spacers and has been in pain. Then both of the younger ones came down with what I had this week all while I was trying to pack for my oldest son.

It has been a trying few weeks and we are only in week 3. Whew!!!! Most of our curriculum is doing good. We have had a bump with science. I have had a really hard time finding a simple science that isn't a ton of reading for my dyslexic child. I also don't like heavy evolution focused science. It has been tough. I don't want to spend two hours on science. Curriculum company's now go too far in my opinion with history and science and make it super hefty. While I love theses subjects I do not want to spend $200 for them and all day focused on that alone. I have to focus on the 3 R's because to me that is the most important and especially with a child with learning issues.

Anyway, we are pressing on and making the best of it as we can. I was inspired ONCE again by Monica at The Homespun Heart on looking at What is Working rather focusing on what is not working. She had a post recently about this and it was so inspiring and encouraging.

Enough ramble...bless you all.

  5. I’m sorry you’ve been struggling. I have a recommendation for science. Use Jeannie Fulbright’s “Exploring Creation Through” books, and read aloud. There are 14 chapters that you can do over two weeks each with some experiments. We’ve done all the books, we don’t do all the activities or experiments. They have Astronomy, Zoology 1,2,3, (3 books) Botany, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry and Physics. We love them. You can find them at CBD.
