Little Pockets of Slow~Being a Mary and a Martha

Happy Friday my friends. You all Friday is like my first of the week. I am in ministry (church planter Pastor's wife) and to be honest my weekends feel like whirlwinds. I wouldn't trade it though. There are a few things I try to do on the weekends to stay at a slow pace so that I don't run myself ragged.

It really starts Friday. I usually have lunch with a friend. Just slow down and visit with a close friend. We laugh, deep talk, and sometimes cry. We don't do it every Friday, but when we do I feel recharged. It ministers to me and to her.

Second, I make a lot of to do lists. Then I slowly pace myself to do the most important and then what's left undone is just undone.

Saturday my husband and I try to have coffee and talk for a little bit before everything goes super busy. This is one of my favorite times of the weekend. Just sharing our thoughts, debating (smiles), sharing our dreams, and discussing home to do's.

We usually always have a family lunch.  After this we start doing church preparations, music practice, and etc.

When this is all done one of my favorite things to do is crawl on my bed and just relax. I have to be intentional about this because if not I will keep going and going! I will enjoy a treat, a book, blog, or Youtube Video. I have been know to sleep. And NO...I simply do not feel lazy or guilty. I get more accomplished when I rest.

I try to fit little pockets of time with God to have still moments with Him outside my daily quiet time. I try to snuggle with my kids that still want to. *Smiles* I try to take a walk. Light a candle. Journal. Take a hot bath.

I am in a season that is super busy in my life. But I am trying to be intentional about enjoying little bits of slow in the midst of busy. I am trying to balance being a Martha and a Mary. I believe we can balance these two with intentionality.

What about you?  How are your weekends?  What do you do to slow in the process of busy?

I am linking up with Friendship Friday hosted by Create With Joy Blog & The Hearth & Soul Link Up Party.

BIG HUGS Friends!!!!!

  1. It definitely can be a struggle to balance the Mary and Martha sides of our personalities! I can only imagine how busy the weekends are as a pastor's wife. I like that you start with a lunch from time to time, in order to reinvigorate and recharge. We are in a busy season of our life as well, and sometimes it seems I am being more of a Martha than I would like to be. It's important to embrace the Mary side of ourselves and allow ourselves to be still, rest and be blessed. Thank you so much for sharing with us at the Hearth and Soul Link Party, Chrissy. Blessings as you begin another busy weekend!

  2. Dear Chrissy,

It's such a pleasure to meet you - thanks for joining us for Friendship Friday at Create With Joy! My husband and I lead/teach a small group at our church on Sunday mornings so we have a sense of how busy weekends can be!

We also cherish and try to spend as much quiet time together as we can - I especially savor those moments - because precious quality times of rest seem so rare.

Have a wonderful weekend and I hope you'll join us for Inspire Me Monday as well! :-)

  3. To slow down I will stop, read, sit by our pond in the quietness of the day. I find that I am less stressed and renewed. Enjoyed your post.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  4. I JUST had this conversation with my husband today because I have a church function tomorrow night & then a breakfast with youth leaders Sunday morning & then teaching youth Sunday afternoon... the weekends are SO overwhelming sometimes on top of my day job... but its still finding those moments to refill with Jesus. Can't do all that needs to be done without Him.
